OUR STORY
Not too long ago, in a galaxy near and dear to our hearts, a group of five gentlemen joined forces in Gainesville, Florida. Who were they? What became of this dynastic unity? What was at first a strong bond became something special. It was the influence of the five that created the inspiration, and the dedication of two to execute the inaugural idea. Ladies and gentleman, I present to you, Tough To Say.
Tough To Say is a podcast created to empower young people to take risks, chase their dreams, and be comfortable identifying themselves as a work in progress. This series of realizations stemmed from co-founders Graham O and Barry’s early journey in the professional world. It has always been a tenant of these two pioneers to share their knowledge whenever they can, so the creation of TTS was a no-brainer. They had no plan and no strategy. No resident graphic designer. No editing skills. So, what did they have? A vision to build a community around young talent that transcends the podcast realm. The ideas exist on the airwaves, but the movement is through lifestyle, transparency, and connectivity.
The podcast is merely a start. A vehicle to share concepts, if you will. The real beauty lies within our listeners, subscribers, and contributors. TTS is a platform for you to promote your work. Whether you’re graphic designer, videographer, musician, or storyteller, TTS can find a place for you to demonstrate your skills to the world. It’s an opportunity to be on the main stage with zero restrictions. Looking for a place to house your article detailing the importance of mental health? Or a spot to blast out your latest track or logo design? We are only as strong as our supporters, and with each other, we have no ceiling.
TTS sticks to the mantra, “a work in progress podcast for work in progress people.” With your support and contributions, an idea spurred out of a champagne-fueled balcony brainstorm can one day become an influential brand that puts its community before itself. Where’s this thing headed? Shit, that’s honestly tough to say.
THE TEAM
Graham Olney
Graham grew up in the little town of Safety Harbor, FL where he knew his barber and mechanic far too well. He had big dreams that grew beyond the confines of that marina-based village and into Gainesville at the University of Florida. He discovered creative exploration, writing, speaking, and his current profession, advertising. After graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue his career, and that’s when he looked himself in the mirror and said, “fuck.” Turns out, life ain’t so easy! The kernel of this realization led to the creation of Tough To Say, because having a podcast is cheaper than therapy.
Graham looks to make a positive difference in the world and believes the best way to do that is through transparency, empathy, and action. Regardless of success or failure, his vow is to keep TTS going no matter what.
Also, yes; the glasses are real.
Barry McDonnell
Barry grew up in Sarasota Florida trying to be the next Tiger Woods, but with red hair. Like most journeys in life, things didn't go as planned and he found himself at the University of Florida studying construction management. After several internships and some late nights thinking what he wanted to do after graduation, he decided to get his master's in real estate. Upon graduation, he will be heading down to the capital of South America, Miami, to start his career in real estate development. If you would have told Barry 5 years ago he would be co-hosting a podcast at age 23, he would have laughed and said "yea, sure and the Bucs will win the Super Bowl in 2020."
Barry routinely says how lucky he is to co-host Tough To Say and finds such enjoyment interviewing unique and trailblazing people. He strongly believes this experience is making him a better person.
Matt Rodriguez
Hailing from Spotswood, NJ, Matt found the podcast through a TikTok that Graham posted during the pandemic. He saw 2 friends that were making a podcast for “work-in-progress” people and was intrigued by the stories of individuals trying to navigate the world in their mid 20’s. Serendipitously, Matt was attempting to make the leap from computer science to media production at the same time TTS was looking for an editor and content producer, and the rest is history.
Matt is a fan of most sports and will challenge just about anyone to a game of FIFA. Outside of TTS, he hosts a podcast with his friends and has recently learned to cook. Empanadas are his specialty, and even his mom will vouch for their renown.
