Monthly Mindset, September 2021: Expression

Truth be told, I’ve been stagnate, but not for the reasons you may think. Ordinarily, it’s the dog days of summer as we gear up for the turning of leaves. In my case, personal and professional blockages have cast me into limbo as if the Merovingian himself confused me for Neo. Down in Mobil Avenue Station I wander seeking answers while poking and prodding to accelerate the process (to no avail, of course). It was a product of my work from home situation, former role, pursuit of a love interest, unpreparedness to branch out socially, and lack of mobility.

This seemingly unconquerable complacency led to creative upheaval. No major brain blasts. No major breakthroughs. Just maintaining consistency until it made sense to push through. It was important for me to let things play out the way they did. Left no stones unturned and properly reflected throughout the slowest lazy river on Planet Earth.

Houston, we have liftoff. I report, we have liftoff.

We’re all settled. I don’t often get a fresh start where there is little to no baggage, but life has presented the rare opportunity. If you’ve been following our Monthly Mindset series, you’d know 2021 has been a slow burn for the boi. Here’s where my head is at now.

New job + newfound inspiration + willingness to get myself out there + clean slate. I’m ready to express myself, baby.

Expression of thought, creativity, professionally, emotionally, vulnerability, and much more. Enough with the lists, I’m down to fart on the internet now. I couldn’t think of a better way to usher in this new era #officialfartguy

Try to find ways to express yourself outside your daily coloring book. For me, my self-expression will only be as powerful as I let it. I’m someone who often succumbs to public perception. I worry about how someone might view me as an employee or as a creative. Recently I looked myself in the mirror at 25 years young and asked myself, “who gives a fuck?”

Let it out there. Let it fly. Let it flourish. Don’t bottle up that lightning anymore. Expression takes work and commitment. Go tell that person you think they’re bad as hell. Pick up that instrument you’ve been wanting to learn and start playing horrible scales (at first, you’ll get better). Tell your boss you’re ready for the next step and want to know how to get there.
